Healthcare Reform

Welcome to The SEBO Group's health care reform page... Below are some great resources to help you navigate the complexities of health insurance. Obamacare health insurance is not available at this time and the open enrollment for 2017 is over. If you failed to purchase a qualified ACA health insurance plan (and do no have a job based coverage) before April 1st, 2017 you will not be allowed to purchase new coverage until November 15th, 2018.

There are exceptions to the rule though...

  •  A life qualifying event might create a special enrollment period
  •  If you lose existing coverage, you may be eligible to purchase Obamacare health insurance
  •  You can purchase a voluntary short term health insurance
  •  You may qualify to enroll in Medicaid or CHIP

You will not be able to apply for coverage outside the government mandated open enrollment period unless you have a qualifying life event, which would allow for a special enrollment period. Most special enrollment periods last 60 days from date of life qualifying event (job-based plans generally allow special enrollment periods of 30 days). Examples of special enrollment situations are:

  •  Change in your family status such as marrying, divorce, loss of a spouse due to death
  •  Dependent change, birth, adoption, death
  •  Loss of coverage through your job (note: not paying premiums or being terminated does not qualify)
  •  Loss of eligibility for Medicaid or CHIP, expiration of COBRA coverage, or health plan being decertified
  •  Moving to a new zip code

You can purchase a voluntary product outside of open enrollment. A typical short term health insurance policy period is 6 months and depending on the company you may have the option to re-apply for an additional 6 month time period, for a maximum of one year. We are licensed with a few different carriers and can tailor something to you that is designed to bridge the gap and provide a low cost, affordable form of health coverage. Because short term plans medical plans are not subject to the Affordable Care Act, underwritting will apply and you may be denied a policy if you do not qualify.
